Dear GhanaWeb reader,
Ghana is in a sombre mood as former President Jerry John Rawlings will be buried this week. His funeral began on Sunday, January 24, 2021, and will end on Wednesday, January 27, 2021.
The former president who died on November 12, 2020, left behind a legacy which Ghanaians say will live on forever. He was described by many as second to Kwame Nkrumah in terms of political influence.
Rawlings ruled Ghana for 19 years after a coup d'etat and he transitioned the country from a military regime to a democratic state and exited peacefully. Ghana’s political stability and economic steadiness can be owed to him as he helped maintain Ghana’s position as one of the few liberal democracies in Africa.
