Dear GhanaWeb reader,
We missed last two week’s newsletter due to some unforeseen circumstances. However, we decided to bring you a recap of that week as we update you on last week’s news and events.
Last two weeks saw the power of journalism manifest after journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni’s investigative piece titled ‘Contracts for Sale’ got results following the dismissal of the former CEO of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) Adjenim Boateng Adjei who was caught in the documentary to have given out contracts in his capacity as the CEO of PPA to a company he owned.
The termination of Adjenim Boateng Adjei’s appointment comes after a report by the Commissioner of the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to President Akufo-Addo discovered a conflict of interest against Mr Adjei. He has been on suspension since August 2019 when the documentary aired.
“It feels really good and it starts right from the president to CHRAJ. I commend the President highly for not sitting on this matter and not referring it to the suspicious sources that we know that when cases are referred to, we never get good results so I am happy that something concrete is being done about it,” said the journalist who is currently self-employed after leaving the Multimedia Group following a brouhaha over his “Militia in the Heart of the Nation” documentary that was condemned by the government and state agencies for implicating them.
