Dear GhanaWeb reader,
While we wait for the inauguration of parliament and the swearing-in of President-elect Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, we can’t wait to eliminate the coronavirus pandemic from our country.
The president-elect said in his 21st address of January 3 that the country is expected to take delivery of the coronavirus vaccine in the first half of the year. “We are not yet out of the woods, but we can do it,” he assured.
Only two vaccines - BioNTech and AstraZeneca - have been approved by the World Health Organization and are on sale.
The new variant of coronavirus has not been detected in Ghana yet but the country has tightened its airport protocols to keep out the virus. So far, 712 travellers have tested positive for the virus since the mandatory tests began at the point of entry, announced Akufo-Addo in his address.
Schools have officially been reopened and the government has sworn to protect all students from the virus. Meanwhile, thousands of people are expected to be at the inauguration and swearing-in ceremonies in Parliament on January 7.
The only assured protection is the 6,000 security personnel promised by the police. What about protection against coronavirus?!
