Dear GhanaWeb reader,
We took a newsletter break to bring you the best election coverage an online media platform in Ghana could ever offer. We built a studio in record time and live-streamed our election coverage on GhanaWeb TV for three days straight with the help of over 60 correspondents and volunteers across the country.
GhanaWeb covered all the election news and updates online and on video until the declaration of results. We also had the closest projection of the results on our website which is the main source of news for over 400,000 people in Ghana and in the Diaspora.
The elections are over and Ghanaians are now dealing with post-election blues over the results and if the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) indeed won or it was a flawed election as declared by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) which did not meet the 50% mark.
For a media entity which could only depend on official results declared by the Electoral Commission, evidence of fraud will remain an allegation until the evidence is made available for assessment and analysis. The NDC’s “evidence” in the form of pink sheets which are different from those of the EC can help solve the election mystery only if they are taken to court for a legal hearing. Until then, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is the president-elect with four more years to govern the country.
Two journalists working for GhanaWeb were mobbed by supporters of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) while performing their duty at the party headquarters after the declaration of results. They escaped by the skin of their teeth after they were beaten and manhandled, an action that left them traumatized. GhanaWeb has not heard from the NDC nor the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) regarding the attack. However, the media entity has decided to withdraw from covering NDC events until the party assures us of the safety of our journalists.
